Carina’s design background spans nearly two decades of experience, with an expertise in print and editorial design, and extensive professional experience in brand design for founder-led companies and businesses.
Her design sensibility leads with the belief that personality doesn’t have to suffer for commercial viability. It leans very personal, combining analogue methods and modes of art expression, heavily informed by the D.I.Y. scene, independent publishing, zines, and subcultures.
Carina holds sacred the tactility of the page and the materiality of elements, which are a large consideration for her process, almost as a resistance to generative AI. She likes finding the human in digital design, not wholly rejecting these tools and modes, but looking for a way to retain the humanity behind the screen.
Some of her clients include Hunza G, Esquire Philippines, CNN Philippines, Visual Editions, and Wiggy Kit. She was formerly the Design Director of both The Manila Review and The Biannual Skinny. She has lectured in the Fine Arts Department of Ateneo de Manila University.

She has written extensively for contemporary artists and held a column in The Philippine Star called “Quiet Company” between 2015 and 2019. She has written on the Internet since 2008 and occasionally writes on her blog, Nothing Spaces
She holds a BFA in Information Design (Ateneo de Manila University) and an MRes in Art: Theory & Philosophy (Central Saint Martins, UAL).
